Here, during the period of 1880 - 1914 beautiful ostrich plumes (which women in Europe adored to wear) turned ordinary woman into princesses overnight. Average farm boys turned into aristocratic ostrich barons living in flamboyant ostrich palaces complete with ballrooms, banquet rooms, golf courses, tennis courses etc. Donkey carts were traded in for purebred horses and extravagant horse carriages. Cigars were lit with 5 pound notes. Then it all came tumbling down followed by the war and the flu and drought.But Englishman, Jew, Afrikaner and Coloured stood firm and today Oudtshoorn is still a popular destination from which to explore numerous Attractions.

Nostalgie Guesthouse is a truly unique establishment reminiscent of the early 1900's till today. Historic trends proudly portraying local Afrikaans culture, food and music.
