DescriptionAdding even more value is the conference and wedding venue - all set in a picture perfect landscape. Guests can explore this exquisite region by undertaking guided eco tours such as stargazing, Swartberg Pass excursions and various mountain hikes. Swartberg Country Manor is nestled on the farm "Voorbedacht" situated in the Cango Valley at the foot of the world-renowned Swartberg Pass. The picturesque panoramic view of the Swartberg Mountains will bring comfort to anyone that wants to "get away from it all" and simply soak up the peace of its tranquil surroundings. The farm was purchased in 2003 and welcomed its first guests in February 2005. The extraordinary views of the Swartberg Mountain from the veranda of the original farmhouse compelled us to create a venue where more people could share in the tranquillity and serenity of this beautiful valley. "Voorbedacht" farm is a working farm, which offers our guests the unique opportunity to explore and experience the true essence of subsistence farming in the Little Karoo. Among the various agricultural products farmed, we also farm livestock such as, cattle, sheep and ostriches. Daily walks on the farm allow guests to experience the peace and serenity of this beautiful valley, while for the more "wild at heart"; mountain bikes are available to explore the more rugged terrain. Jan and Barbara (co-owners and managers) will be your hosts, ensuring that you have an unforgettable "homely" experience. Adding good traditional food and comfortable accommodation to this "farm" experience, we trust that you will "rediscover your soul"! Being passionate about our people and environment, we initiated a social upliftment project in the Cango Valley. The financial and social needs of the local farming community motivated us to initiate a sustainable social upliftment programme. Priority was given to the solicitation and training of unemployed locals to work in the guest house. To date 30 people from the community have been trained, and they are now employed by Swartberg Country Manor. To sensitise and educate guests on environmental issues, Jan started an initiative to train THETA (the Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Education and Training Authority) accredited guides so that they could offer a variety of guided eco tours in the Swartberg and Klein Karoo region. In 2008, all these initiatives culminated in the establishment of the H.O.P.E Foundation, of which Jan is the founding member.Accommodation The Main HouseThe Main House offers 11 comfortable en-suite guest rooms with a comfortable lounge. The lounge extends onto the original farmhouse veranda, offering breathtaking views of the Swartberg Mountains. Cango CottagesA further nine rooms are set in three separate true Karoo Style Cottages. Each Cottage has a built-in-braai (barbeque) facility and a comfortable veranda overlooking the Swartberg Mountains.
